NCR Statistics: Recent activity and uploads



The table shown provides recent data activity for the total number of devices and connectors currently in the NCR database. Additionally, a further breakdown of the connector types is provided showing the numbers of Standard AC (3kW), Fast AC (7kW & 22kW) and Rapid AC (43kW) & Rapid DC (50kW+) connectors currently in the NCR.

Alongside the total numbers of devices, connectors and connector types shown, future updates will also include information on the most recent activity for each of these datasets. When possible, added, modified and deleted columns will be added and provide a breakdown of the changes to the devices or connectors undertaken during the last update, the date of which is shown in the last update column.

The data shown is taken directly from the NCR database and is as up-to-date as possible. Information regarding data uploads from each of the registered data providers and networks can be found on the Network Statistics page.

About the NCR

The National Charge Point Registry (NCR) was established by the UK Government in 2011 to provide a public database of publicly-funded charge points across the UK in support of the Government’s objective to promote the use and sales of Ultra Low Emission vehicles (ULEVs) in the UK.

As its name suggests, the NCR is a registry of UK charge points, rather than a mapping service. However, one of the objectives of the NCR is to provide data to third parties, some of whom will present the database in a map format.

Third party applications

Organisations which have developed mapping apps based on NCR data include: ecarni which shows points in Northern Ireland; Greener Scotland which shows Scottish EV chargers; PlugSurfing, a desktop and mobile app which allows users to search for points by power rating; Open Charge Map, which shows charge points in the UK and globally; Mitsubishi Motors which allows users to find Mitsubishi compatible charge points in the UK; and Zap-Map which displays all UK NCR points and allows users to search by charger type.

Access the data

The NCR database containing key information regarding the UK’s public charge point network is freely available to end users in XML, CSV, and JSON formats. An API is also available for developers to automatically import the dataset for third party applications.

To download the latest version of the NCR database (in all formats), users are directed to the official Government data portal at: data.gov.uk/dataset/national-charge-point-registry. Data is provided free under the Open Government Licence. No registration is required for this service.

Uploading to the NCR

Network owners and operators are able to upload charge point information to the NCR either via a web portal or using upload APIs on a periodic basis.

Organisations wanting to upload data should first register with the National Charge Point Registry. For more info, email [email protected] or call the NCR Helpline on 0300 777 0001.
